In today's stage over 202km, two cyclists managed to escape and stay away from the pack until the final kilometer. However, they were overtaken just before the finish line. The stage resulted in a sprint finish in which Marcel Wust of Germany was the fastest. Laurent Jalabert kept his yellow jersey.
In the game, Jose Aarts of The Netherlands won the second stage in a row. The last time someone managed to win two stages in a row was in 1997, when Arie Hordijk (USA) and Rene Marechal (Canada) managed back-to-back stage wins. The second place today was shared by three participants: Dutchmen Arnold Post and Gerard Voorintholt, and Herman De Grande from Belgium. Obviously Jose Aarts retained her first place in the overall rankings. Two people from The Netherlands share second place over there: Arnold Post and Ellen van Overeem.
