TdF Stage 20: July 22, 2000

The twentieth stage over 254km was the longest stage of this year's Tour. For the first time since stage 5, the sprinters got a chance to go for first place. The holder of the green jersey, Erik Zabel of Germany, was the fastest today. Australia's Robbie McEwen was second and Jeroen Blijlevens from The Netherlands third. Armstrong kept the yellow jersey.

The stage in the game was won by Tim Zwaagstra (The Netherlands). He collected a few more points than two other people from The Netherlands: Ren Janzen and Ingeborg van Dijk. There were some unexpected changes in the top of the overall rankings. With Robbie McEwen in the top ten, E. Gaas of The Netherlands has managed to overcome the seven-points deficit on fellow-countryman Wil Gommans. For the first time in the seven years that the game is run, we have two people on the top of the overall rankings. Spain's Maria Marti kept her third place. McEwen is expected to be in tomorrow's top ten as well and this means that Gaas suddenly has a very good chance to win the game.

Today Michael Boogerd (member of 199 teams) abandoned the race after a crash.
