TdF Stage 20: July 29, 2001

Reinier van Olderen (The Netherlands) has won the Internet Tour de France Game 2001. In the final stage, the Dutchman collected enough points to stay ahead of his closest rivals, Cameron Henderson (Australia) and Rens Jan Piket (The Netherlands). These two share second place.

For the seventh year in a row, the final stage of the Tour de France has ended with a sprint finish. Jan Svorada (Czech Republic) was the first to cross the line. Germany's Erik Zabel finished second and claimed the green jersey. The Tour de France 2001 was won by Lance Armstrong (USA). Like last year, Jan Ullrich (Germany) and Joseba Beloki (Spain) finished second and third. The other prices were won by Laurent Jalabert (polka dot jersey), Oscar Sevilla (white jersey) and Kelme (best team).

The final stage in this edition of the game was won by Dick Blom (The Netherlands). The Dutchman is holder of the all time highest stage score in the game, 107 points obtained in 1999, and today 77 points were enough for him to claim first place. His fellow countrymen Erix Schokker and Rien Post finished second and third, respectively. Reinier van Olderen (The Netherlands) held on to first place in the overall rankings while Rens Jan Piket from the same country kept second place, only six points behind the winner. Cameron Henderson (Australia) is the new name in the top three. He shares second place with Piket. Switzerland's Marco Moccetti finishes just outside of the top three at place four, two points behind second place.

This has been an exciting Tour with many interesting stages. The game has benefitted from this: we had 16 different participants winning stages and eight claiming the overall lead at some point of the game. Thank you all for participating in the game and see you back next year!
