TdF Stage 18: July 26, 2002

The eighteenth stage was the final mountain stage of this edition of the Tour. A group of ten riders escaped from the peloton in the early phase of the race. They were never taken back. Thor Hushovd (Norway) won the stage. Lance Armstrong (USA) finished in the main pack at more than 11 mintes behind the winner. He keeps the yellow jersey.

Like yesterday, the result of this stage was difficult to predict. Of the 1143 game participants, 810 failed to obtain points today. The team of E. Baarslag (The Netherlands) has Fagnini, Jaksche and Van Bon as members and this earned it the stage win. For the second time in a row Archie Simpson (UK/Scotland) finished second in a stage. Matt Millis (USA) was third. No one in the top 40 of the overall rankings got any points today. Arno Bakker (The Netherlands) stays on place one with fellow countryman Martin Smits and Aaron Martin from Northern Ireland completing the top three.
