TdF Stage 19: July 27, 2002

In the previous time trial, Lance Armstrong was a surprising second behind Santiago Botero. In the nineteenth stage, another time trial, Armstrong was determined to get place one. He won the stage with a lead of almost a minute over number two, Raimondas Rumsas (Lithuania). Because of this stage victory, Armstrong extended his lead in the overall rankings.

After her monster score in the previous time trial, it is no surprise that this stage in the game was won by Maaike Kuipers (The Netherlands). The other two members of today's stage top three also finished in the top three in the first time trial: Michel C. Journaille (The Netherlands) and Leelou Hansen (USA). At the top of the overall rankings Martin Smits joins fellow countryman Arno Bakker at place one. The two Dutchmen have a lead of more than 10 points on number three, Aaron Martin (UK/Northern Ireland), and it seems that the two of them will battle for overall victory of the game tomorrow.
