TdF Stage 16: July 23, 2003

The sixteenth stage over 197 km was the stage of Tyler Hamilton. The American crossed the finish line first after a long solo ride. He moved to place six in the overall rankings and a good time trial on Saturday might put him in the top four. Fellow countryman Lance Armstrong kept the yellow jersey.

The top 10 in the stage contained some top sprinters but some were missing as well because they could not keep up with the main group during the two climbs today. The stage was won by Francis Lee (UK) with a team that contained Hamilton, Zabel, Casar and O'Grady. Today's second place was shared by Erik Neidy (USA) and Nick Ainscough (UK/England). In the overall rankings we have a new leader: Belinda Ward (USA). Nagrom Skubidi (Norway) drops to second place. Lou Solko of the United States moves up to claim third.
