TdF Stage 20: July 27, 2003

Belinda Ward (USA) has won the Internet Tour de France Game 2003. In the final stage, the first-time participant extended her lead over the rest of the top of the overall rankings. Heath M. Brown (USA) moves up from third to take second place and Lou Solko completes an American 1-2-3. This has been a very successful year for the United States in the game. Eight of the top ten participants in the overall rankings come from the United States. The two exceptions are Nagrom Skubidi (Norway) on place 4 and Sonya Mulalic (Germany) on a shared seventh place.

The final stage with finish in Paris ended in the expected sprint finish. The final sprint was won by Jean Patrick Nazon (France). Baden Cooke finished second ahead of Robbie McEwen and therefore McEwen lost the green jersey to Cooke. Lance Armstrong (USA) won his fifth consecutive Tour de France which put him on the short list of five-time Tour winners (others are Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault and Indurain). Jan Ullrich was second for the fifth time and Alexandre Vinokourov third. Virenque won the polkadot jersey for best climber and Menchov the white jersey for best young rider.

In this stage we saw the sprinter teams return back to the top of the stage results. The stage was won by Xiaojun Creemers (The Netherlands, second stage victory) with fellow countrymen Bert Otten and Rien Post sharing second place.

This has been an exciting edition of the Tour de France and a nice edition of the game with a record number of participants. Thank you all for participating and see you all back in 2004!
