The sixteenth stage was an uphill individual time trial of 15 km with the finish at Alpe d'Huez. Lance Armstrong was the fastest and he won his third stage. The runnerup in the overall rankings, Italy's Ivan Basso, was not very strong today. Armstrong started two minutes after him but finished ahead of Basso. All jerseys stayed with the same riders as yesterday but Armstrong is getting close to taking the polkadot jersey from Virenque.
Four the first time in five years, a stage in the game had three winners. Jos Theune (The Netherlands), Laia Gurrutxaga (Spain/Basque Country) and Tim Titanium (USA) all collected 56 points and thus share the victory of stage 16. Dutchman Arthur Denneman remains the overall leader in the game. Fellow countryman Jan Matheeuwwsen proceeds his advance in the rankings. He takes second place from Austria's Barbara Hoffellner, who is third now. 1999 game winner Michael Botzet (Germany) claims fourth place and looks strong.
