This is a list of the most popular Tour de France cyclists among the 1200 participants in the Internet Tour de France Game 2004. Every time that a cyclist appears at the first place of a team list he receives 15 points, for a second place 14 points and so on. All these points have been added together and the result is this list which represents the average choice of the participants in this game. Just like in 2001, 2002 and 2003, five-time yellow jersey winner Lance Armstrong (USA) leads the rankings. Jan Ullrich (Germany, fifth in 2003) is second and Allessandro Petacchi (Italy, seventh in 2003) is third. Twenty five of the 188 riders, including the early dropout Nick Gates, have not been included in any team. Last year this number was 19.
The top 15 of this list have been used to make the artificial competitor Jan Modaal (the Dutch version of John Doe).
This list contains the points of each cyclist together with his name and the number of participants that have chosen him in their teams (between brackets). The number of points has been computed by awarding 15 points for every first position in a team, fourteen for every second position and so on.
