TdF Stage 17: July 20, 2005Today we saw the longest stage of this year's race: 239.5 km. The riders took it easy and travelled to the finish in a big group. 17 cyclists escaped and gained almost 25 minutes on the main group. Discovery Channel's Paolo Savoldelli won the stage. There were no changes in the jersey rankings. Yet another difficult stage to predict and today only 213 game participants collected points. N. Schmelzer (The Netherlands) came close to winning his second stage but he was one point short of the score of Vegard Reiersen (Norway). Australia's Jack Pincott took place 3. Christopher Yaure (USA) is still the overall leader in the game but for the first time predicted winner Matthias Kersten (Germany) joins him at the top of the overall rankings. Therefore the quartet at place 2 drops to third place: Bill Singer (USA), Dennis O'Farrell (Australia), Ernstjan Kats (The Netherlands) and Jim Andrews (Australia). Now the point difference between the first six in the overall rankings is only one point! Today Andreas Klöden left the race because of a hand injury caused by an earlier crash. He was member of 319 game participant teams.
