TdF Stage 21: July 24, 2005Amadeus Bike (The Netherlands) has won the Internet Tour de France Game 2005. The presumed first-time participant in the game had constructed exactly the right team for responding to the unusual results of the final stage and advanced to from eight to first place. He became the first participant in the history of the game to win the game without leading for a single day. Alexandre Vinokourov was the surprise winner of the final stage finishing in Paris. The brave rider from Kazakstan, who needed one second to move from sixth to fifth in the overall rankings, escaped 1.5 km before the line and the sprinter teams were unable to catch him. For the first time since 1994 the final stage in Paris did not end with a bunch sprint. Lance Armstrong (USA) won an unprecedented seventh consecutive Tour de France. At the podium he announced that this is his last win: he will not come back next year. Italy's Ivan Basso was second and Germany's Jan Ullrich third. Thor Hushovd (Norway) won the green jersey, Mikael Rasmussen (Denmark) took the polkadot jersey and Yaroslav Popovych (Ukraine) earned the white jersey. The final stage in the game was won by former overall leader Martin Hoffellner (Austria). Jan van Dieten of The Netherlands was second and Eric De Oliveira (France) took the third place in the stage. The thirteenth place in the stage earns Amadeus Bike the first place in the game. He has a good seven-point lead over second-placed Paul Schlösser of the same country. Cycopath Retsu (USA) and Jim Andrews (Australia) share third place. The Tour de France 2005 has been a memorable race with Lance Armstrong winning the race for the seventh time. It will probably be a while before we see someone repeating this. Next year there will be another winner but it is not easy to predict who it will be. The game has also been quite interesting. The differences in the overall rankings have always been small. In eighteen stages we have had eight different overall leaders and nineteen different stage winners (one stage had two winners). Thank you all for participating and see you back in 2006!
