TdF Stage 2: July 03, 2006In the second longest stage of this edition (228 km), two riders escaped from the main pack shortly after the start. Aitor Hernandez and David de la Fuente (both from Spain) built a lead of more than eleven minutes but were caught after 200 km. Like yesterday the stage ended with a sprint finish and this time Australia's Robbie McEwen crossed the line first. Thor Hushovd (Norway) took back the yellow jersey because after collecting bonification seconds. In the first stage of the game there were two winners: Bevo Gallagher (USA) and Dimitri van Agterveld (The Netherlands). They obtained an all-time stage record score: 114 points. No less than six participants attained a higher score today than Dick Blom's 107 points of 1999. Dimitri van Agterveld is the first and only participant in the 13-year history of the game to find back the complete top ten of his team in a stage top ten. Karolina Tobiasson (Sweden) was third today.
