TdF Stage 17: July 20, 2006The seventeenth stage (200 km with among other an out-of-category climb) has become a solo demonstration of Floyd Landis. The American escaped after about 70 km, passed all earlier breakaway groups and crossed the finish line by himself, almost six minutes ahead of the rest. Spain's Oscar Pereiro kept the yellow jersey but now his closest competitors are within 30 seconds. Carlos Sastre is second at 12 seconds and Floyd Landis is third at half a minute. The Tour will be decided in the final individual time trial on Saturday. After a fifth place in stage 16, today the stage in the game was won by mountain specialist Tore Högman (Sweden). Rick Goatman (Australia) was second and O. Vergeer of The Netherlands was third. Brigitte Touw (The Netherlands) extended her lead in the overall rankings to 21 points. 2004 winner Arthur Denneman is second and joint third places Arjen Pijfers and Dimitri van Agterveld complete a Dutch 1-2-3.
