TdF Stage 18: July 21, 2006

The 18th stage (197 km) contained a category 2 climb. The race favorites as well as the sprinters were looking for some rest and no one was interested in catching a fifteen men breakaway group. Three of the 15 battled for the stage win and Italy's Matteo Tosatto proved to be the best. Oscar Pereiro of Spain kept the yellow jersey.

Today's stage top ten was very hard to predict because it did not contain any favorites for the major jerseys. Only 31 game participants (5%) managed to obtain points. Ed Searle (UK/England) has second-placed Christain Moreni at number 2 in his team and this was enough to earn him today's stage win. Judith van Wijk of The Netherlands was second while Doug Hall (USA) and Ryan O'Hara (Canada) shared third place. Bevo Gallagher (USA) was one of the few in the overall top ten to acquire points today. He moves up to second place, shared with Arthur Denneman (The Netherlands). Brigitte Touw remains the overall leader in the game.

Today sprinter Oscar Freire left the race. He was member of 265 game participant teams.
