TdF Stage 20: July 23, 2006Arthur Denneman of The Netherlands has won the Internet Tour de France Game 2006. In the final stage he had exactly the same members of the stage top ten in his team as his closest rival Brigitte Touw. However, better scoring positions of Stuart O'Grady and Bernhard Eisel enabled him to collect enough points to claim first place. Arthur Denneman won the game in 2004 and he becomes the first participant to win the game for a second time. As has become common in the race, the final stage to Paris (154 km) was an exhibition stage in which the riders took it easy until they reached the Champs Elysées. There were many attempts to escape in the eight rounds on the famous street but the average speed was to high to have any successful breaks. The stage resulted in a sprint finish. After winning the prologue three weeks ago, Norway's Thor Hushovd also won the final stage. Robbie McEwen was second and Stuart O'Grady third. Floyd Landis won the race ahead of Oscar Pereiro and Andreas Klöden. McEwen won the green jersey, Michael Rasmussen the polkadot jersey and Damiano Cunego took the white jersey for the best young rider. The final stage in the 2006 edition of the game was won Karolina Tobiasson of Sweden. Frank Hartung (Germany) was second and Nathalie Mulder (The Netherlands) claimed third place. Arthur Denneman won the game for the second time, this time with a record overall score. Like last year's winner, he appears at the top of the overall rankings for the first time when it really mattered: in the last stage. Brigitte Touw finished second at four points and Dimitri van Agterveld completes a Dutch 1-2-3, ten points behind the winner. This has been a nice edition of the game. Thanks for participating and see you back next year! Comments on the game can be added to the guestbook (read, write).
