TdF Stage 2: July 09, 2007


In the second flat stage (168km), three riders managed to break away from the main pack and to build a lead of over five minutes. However, they were caught three km before the line and the stage finished with the expected bunch sprint. Surprisingly enough, one of the helpers of favorite Tom Boonen, Gert Steegmans from Belgium, managed to stay ahead of him. He won the stage. Fabian Cancellara fell in the later part of the race but he managed to hold on to the yellow jersey.

The first stage in the edition of the game was won by Erik Dekker of the United Arab Emirates. Fia Blackangel (Sweden) and Gerard Creemers (The Netherlands) shared second place. These three are also the top three of the first overall rankings.
