The sixth stage of 195 km was the first one with some serious climbs. The finish was on top of the second category two climb of the day (the 1289 m Super Besse). Three men escaped early in the stage but they were caught. A group of about 30 riders including all race favorites sprinted to the final km, a 10% climb to the finish. Riccardo Ricco (Italy) was the first at the line. Leader Stefan Schumacher fell in the later part of the race and lost his yellow jersey to Kim Kirchen of Luxembourg.
Yesterday was a day for the sprinter teams and today the teams with climbers collected many points. José Aarts of The Netherlands obtained the most points in this stage. Carole Ugen (Luxembourg) was second and Jan Klaas Post (The Netherlands) was third. In the overall rankings, we have a new leader for the fourth day in a row: game veteran Tako Molanus of The Netherlands. In 1998, he won the game after being in the lead for eight days. Omar Almaini (UK) is second while Eli Lee (Canada) occupies the third spot.
