TdF Stage 11: July 16, 2008

The 167 km stage 11 turned out to be the first stage with a successful big break. A group of twelve men broke away from the peloton and built a lead of over 16 minutes. Three men sprinted for the stage win and Denmark's Kurt-Asle Arvesen crossed the line first. Cadel Evans kept the yellow jersey.

There were not many popular cyclists in the top ten today so this was a tough result to predict. Roger Bergson (USA) had three riders of the break in his team. He won the stage. Warren Smart (New Zealand) was second and Dick Howard (USA) and Natacha Haslin (France) shared third place. The top three in the overall rankings did not collect any points in this stage. There were no changes here: Omar Almaini (UK) and Bryan Stout (New Zealand) remain the overall leaders. Bob Verweij of The Netherlands stays on the third spot.
