The fourteenth stage was similar to the thirteenth: 199 km, never flat but also without serious climbing. Thirteen riders escaped from the peloton and twelve of them reached the line before the main pack. Sergei Ivanov of Russia won the stage thanks to a successful acceleration about 10 km before the line. Rinaldo Nocentini kept the yellow jersey but George Hincapie came close to catching him. He is now second overall, five seconds behind the race leader.
The fourteenth stage had two winners in the game: Anton Cozijnsen (Australia) and David Redhead (UK). No fewer than five participants tied at 25 points to take third place: Bevo Gallagher (USA), Brigitte Touw (The Netherlands), Cameron Henderson (Australia), Michel Oberson (Switzerland) and Rob Spaans (The Netherlands). We have a new leader in the overall rankings: Bastin Verweij of The Netherlands took over this spot from Martin Hoffellner, who is second now. Rune Førsund remains third.
