TdF Dropouts in 1998

This is a list of cyclists that have dropped out in the cycling race Tour de France 1998. The list can be used by the participants in the Internet Tour de France Game 1998 to check whether they have lost members of their teams.

Note: if a cyclist has dropped out of a team it does not mean that he will be replaced by a reserve. The reserve cyclists have only been used for completing the teams before the start of the game. After the game start the teams are fixed just like the teams participating in the Tour de France.

In total 93 cyclists have dropped out. There are 96 left.

Notes:

• Article 29 of the Tour de France rules states that 'nothing may disturb the spirit of the Tour de France' (source NOS Teletekst). The disqualification of the Festina team came after their team manager confessed that the Festina riders have used illegal performance-enhancing drugs.
• The teams ONCE, Banesto, Riso Scotti, Kelme and Vitalicio Seguros and the rider Luc Leblanc (team Polti) have decided to leave the Tour as a protest to the treatment of the Tour participants by the French police. The night before the first protest there was a raid on the TVM team and the team members have been forced by the police to gave samples of blood, urine and hair.
